The Lois M. Tinson Memorial Scholarship

The Lois M. Tinson was the first African American to serve as President of the California Teachers Association (1994-1999).  She was one of the founding members of the CTA African American Caucus and the Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee (EMAC) which is now the Racial Equity Affairs Committee (REAC).

Purpose:

In 1991, the African American Caucus established the Lois M. Tinson Scholarship to aid African Americans in preparing for teaching careers in public education.

Goal:

The California Teachers Association and the African American Caucus recognizes the shortage of African American Teachers in California.  The goal of the scholarship is to encourage African American students to become teachers.

The Fund:

The Scholarship is supported by voluntary contributions.  Amounts vary each year depending on the amount of contributions.
